Nominator's project description
| Professor Wellner is an international leader in mathematical statistics, where he has made fundamental contributions to large sample theory, the theory of empirical processes, probability in Banach spaces, efficient estimation for non- and semiparametric models, and shape-restricted inference. Equally well-respected among probabilists and statisticians, his research and expository work has had profound impact in both theoretical and applied communities. In Germany, the emphasis of Professor Wellner's research is on statistical inference under shape constraints. |
